Unless you live on a houseboat in the middle of a tranquil lake, it’s best to pack an emergency getaway bag for the season or at least make a list of your Must-Grab items, like the cat and your laptop (don’t worry about the phone—it’ll already be in your hand as you wheel about in panic.)

Things are getting particularly scary in Greece and the Mediterranean Basin: a few people have perished in Sicily and one of that island’s most enduring and indelible monuments, the 2500 year-old Temple of Segesta, is precariously close to meeting its maker(s).
