The annual Buchmesse has launched with its first press conference and controversy is, of course, in the air—perhaps rightfully so. Circles are spinning within circles as attendees grapple with some interesting statistics and trends in the publishing world. Forecasts are being made. Plans are hatching. Ideas are bouncing around as if on pogo-sticks. I’ll be on hand at the Buchmesse in 2024 (if the world has not exploded or is not in the process of smoldering) so this years’s events and twists and turns are well worth the attention of all authors, bound for Frankfurt or not.
