Well, to one poor dog, at least. THIS ARTICLE FROM OUTDOOR LIFE details a sad story coming from the waters off Nova Scotia. A duck hunter was out in his boat waiting for quackers stupid enough to land in the ocean near seafaring human vessels. The man shot his duck of choice and promptly sent his trained hunting dog into the surf to retrieve Daffy. As the pooch was swimming back to its master’s boat with the feathered quarry … CHOMP! A juvenile Great White Shark attacked from below and bit the dickens out of the faithful doggie. The hunter witnessed the entire grisly tableau while safe on deck. The stricken animal was able to make it back make to the ship but bled-out quickly once there.

Next time, send the hunter into the water to collect his own maimed mallards, thank you very much. Now that would be SPORT HUNTING. RIP, Fido. You may have been man’s best friend, but mankind was not necessarily yours.
