If human beings are going to live and breed and try to subsist along waterways in wilderness portions of Indonesia and Bali and Australia, saltwater crocodiles are going to be a very real part of everyday existence. There’s no need to wring hands about it or seek to “understand” it or attempt to form coalitions.
It is a reality. It is part of nature, just as humans are a part of nature. Ask anyone who lives in Grizzly Bear territory or in places where rattlesnakes proliferate or, for another example, in regions conducive to catastrophic destruction from wildfires.
Mother Nature calls the shots far more than we do and she has already made it clear that our ongoing, obtrusive efforts at interference are unwelcome. Living in harmony with nature carries with it an unspoken understanding that any one of us may be obliterated … by reptile or insect or plague or crime or twist of fate.
All these things are a part of nature, along with love and compassion.
