I have been writing and illustrating new material and have precious little time to escape the nightmares—literal nightmares—that accompany work on long-form projects, but I shall not leave the multitudes adrift. All shall be given a topic to ponder and discuss:

American Over-Packaging!

Why, oh WHY does almost every product in America, from eye drops to lunch meat to Aidell’s Sausages to crap you order on Amazon come with enough complicated packaging that you’d think everything you were dealing with contained weapons-grade plutonium?

Do we not trust one another as Americans? I can certainly imagine that to be true. We’ve become a bunch of spoiled, soiled, voyeuristic, antagonistic, entitled, stupid, trashy liars, exhibitionists, and fevered vampires. (Well, not I and not you, Dear Reader.)

Do we not trust the products we buy, to the point wherein we shackle them up with packaging that requires frustrated hands and defeated, sliced fingertips to grab a butcher knife in an attempt to open a bag of freshly grated parmesano reggiano?

Over-packaging seems to be a uniquely American fixation. Think about it and realize you can do nothing about it, unless you want to glue yourself to a Basquiat and scream at the moon pending arrest. We don’t have enough people protesting enough things.

I’m busy.
