THIS LINK showcases a fascinating little article about the temple built for the mighty god Apollo at the ancient Greek site of Epicurus. The most intriguing aspect of this fabulous edifice is that it was built specifically in the style of the most iconic Greek temple of them all—the Parthenon, which was consecrated to the goddess Athena atop the acropolis of Athens. The lesser-known temple of Apollo was just as magnificent in scope, however, and preserves some extraordinary examples of architecture that lead archaeologists to believe the same architect or school of architects who built the Parthenon had a hand in the erection of this sanctuary. The Apollo temple may not have presided over its city with the same majestic hilltop glory as did the temple of Athena of Athens, but it is every bit as superb in terms of graceful construction and sanctity.

Being a devourer of ancient mythologies and the temples raised to glorify the often melodramatic subjects of those myths, I can’t get enough of this kind of information. Hopefully you’ll find it interesting as well.
