The title sounds harsh, but it it isn’t. Renowned crime author Cate was indeed clueless as to the extent of her rampaging alcoholism and her story should scare the back-hair off a Sasquatch but probably won’t because most people on earth are too busy thinking of themselves—especially drunks.

And don’t hand me that bottle of Snake Oil called “It’s A Disease!” because it isn’t. I’m tired of our shit-canned society rejecting inconvenient realities like “self-responsibility” and “discipline” just so individuals don’t have to hurt their own goddamned feelings. What a great selling point! And a tale as old as time, but one that sensible people used to reject out of hand before it became a friggin’ cottage industry in the decrepit and doomed West.

TRUTH BOMB: People have proclivities upon which they are not obliged to act and tendencies they are not in any way forced to cultivate. It’s called free will. Bolstered by self-respect and a few core values. A drunk can certainly think-up a lie to get hold of booze and dial the UberEats folk to score booze from grocery stores. That takes some THINKIN’. Elaborate thinkin’ in some cases. But utilize those same brain waves to get themselves cleaned up and basically functional for daily life? Pffffft! Suddenly the guile and calculating powers VANISH.
