Australian NT is launching saltwater crocodile “management” plans that include culling of the fearsome but biologically crucial reptiles. Isn’t this simply the hubris of the human way at its most asinine? Here in California, millions of dollars are spent trying to save minnows that haven’t a chance in hell of surviving—species that have been selected by nature for diminishment, without any destructive human interference—while urban societal infrastructures are collapsing into oblivion under the weight of untenable policy regarding undocumented migration.

But let a saltwater crocodile prey upon someone fully aware of the danger of infested waters … start killing the beasts! To arms! To arms!

I realize that an animal like a saltwater crocodile is hardly going to generate a wide-range of human sympathy, and understand the reasons. They are colossal and eminently dangerous reptiles. Nothing cuddly about them. Personally, I don’t think fish are all that cute, either. What if some of these precious fish are eating some microbe that harbors the cure for cancer in humans? Greedy little robbers! The point is that apex predators occupy their habitats for good reason and if the ethical practice is to leave them alone and educate garden-variety morons about their proclivities, then do it across the board.

Even for crocodiles of the “saltie” variety. When something comes along at another point in history and it’s humanity’s turn to be “culled,” why fight nature’s plan? Let some new pox RIP.

Eh … my measly two cents. Then again, I’m in a nihilistic mood today. Tomorrow I could be hunting crocs.
