This poor Australian fellow’s luck in the world of surfing has taken some seriously rough turns. He’s considered a rising star in the recreational sport but has already been impeded by a couple of issues:: a broken neck last year and, just in the last week, a shark attack that took half his leg—a leg that could not be reattached by intrepid doctors working feverishly on the injury.

Still, Kai has every intention of returning to the ocean. At what capacity remains to be seen.
