Sensationalized headlines these days typically make reference to seafaring encounters with “huge” Great White Sharks or “monster” great white sharks. Then the video footage of said encounters reveals sharks in the relatively tiny 10 ft. range, which is hardly “huge” for this species. The other day off Pismo Beach, near San Luis Obispo in California, however, some tourists got a look at one of the genuine Big Mamas that haunt the cold waters off that portion of sea mammal-rich coast. This Great White Shark played bumpity-bump with their boat and looked to be a rather healthy adult in the 15-16 ft. range. Anything over 15 ft. in the world of the Great White is legitimately “huge”. I hope the day trippers were duly impressed by this rare meet-‘n’-greet. They should be.
