Could it be that the remaining Tolkien heirs seem inordinately eager for coin? Could it be that the subject of the films (Gollum’s release from Mordor) was one of marginal importance to Tolkien and deliberately obscure detail in the source material? Could it be that I would not be surprised to see twin elves of Asian stock conjoined at their heads, occupying wheelchairs, and declaring their non-binary status for purposes of representation? After all, madness creeps and flourishes throughout the world, just as the shadows overwhelmed Mirkwood.
