Not really—at least I wouldn’t drop it on a rodent. My Granny, however, might have done so in a panic.

Bigger than one of those colossal Family Bibles people from days of yore used to display, this gigantic, vintage Webster’s Dictionary, dating from the early 1900s, was once part of my Grandmother’s immense library and I used to peruse it with rapt devotion in a corner while the adults played gin rummy and drank coffee into the wee hours at the card table in the center of the fabulous room, fire crackling in the floor-to-ceiling hearth.

Good times, never to be regained but well-cherished. Take that, Funk & Wagnalls!
