I was the kid who always cheered when Frosty the Snowman got locked in the greenhouse and melted into a puddle, drenched further with the overwrought tears of Little Cindy or whatever the hell her name was.

Talking Snowmen creeped me out … or perhaps I simply didn’t like Frosty’s idiotic optimism. It’s probably best not to ask what I thought of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (whining little slab of venison.) Oscar the Grouch of Sesame Street was, however, a hero.
