The death of genius actress and comedian Catherine O’Hara is a devastating loss to the entertainment world. Though perhaps best known these days for her role as the daffy matriarch on the popular Schitts Creek series, O’Hara has been making people laugh for decades. Her bright, instinctive work with the famed SCTV troupe was legendary and she never disappointed with unforgettable turns such as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice, the bereft mom in Home Alone, and, most dear to me, her knee-slapping contributions to Christopher Guest’s fantastic mockumentaries (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffmann, For Your Consideration, etc.)

This loss hurts in the deep, shadowy cockles of the heart. RIP, Miss O’Hara. Thanks for the great memories and remember … there’s a kiss at the end of the rainbow, more precious than a pot of gold.
