J.P. Morgan was perhaps proof of the concept that men with serious physical deficiencies or flaws—not of the debilitating kind, just the aesthetic—worked harder than many others to dominate and conquer across a vast landscape of challenges. Mr. Morgan suffered from a transfixingly ugly “cauliflower nose” and he allegedly used it, bursting purple veins and all, to intimidate cowering men in the boardrooms of the early 1900s.

We have heard of “short man’s syndrome” … Napoleon and many before and after him. One also finds it difficult to escape the rumor that men with small genitalia work themselves into rabidity to compensate for that shortcoming.

Was the West (and much of the ancient Near East as well as China) built upon insecure, overreaching guys who lacked crucial physical qualities? What a strange accident of nature that would be, if the greatest engineering, economical, military, philosophical, and religious institutions under which we thrive (?) were the result of tiny weenies and stubby legs.

Behold, the universe … it allows for random innovations.
