This little fellow lost part of his tail in some kind of dustup with a predator and was exhausted when I found him outside. Out of sorts! Befuddled! Glad to be alive! He looked like he needed a bit of extra kindness so I gave him my hand and offered to lift him just a bit above the cruel world for a few minutes. He accepted and was grateful for the reprieve … I think. For all I really know he was paralyzed with terror and resigned to the fact that an even BIGGER monster was about to make a snack of him. I, however, choose to believe that he was happy.

Besides, I’d already had a big breakfast.
