Not Substack, Jonny …

MORE? This means I have to do MORE?!?

Yeah, in addition to jazzing-up my official site ASAP (I have a novel coming out in May, after all), I’m considering the idea of launching my carcass onto the Substacks. Aye yi yi.

There is a method to my madness, so hang on for a minute and see what you think about it.

The theme of this proposed Substack will be world travel.

I started traveling extensively in my 20s. I lived in France for a year. Hunkered down in Italy for half a year. Greece and the Greek Islands for six months. Lived in Germany for a summer with one of the sweetest ladies the deities ever did put upon the earth. Haunted Italy for an extended period. Made several extended trips to Egypt, where I feel I was probably a high priest of the goddess Nephthys in a past life, if goddesses and past lives do indeed exist.

I have traipsed through the Middle East, Britain, Polynesia, tropical isles beyond count …

My feet were made for walkin’, good people. I did not hold them back.

Perhaps more integral for the consideration of my wanderlust-ish tendencies, I have been what people call an “old soul” since I was, like, NINE. (There are many reasons for that—some wondrous and some not-so-precious, but that explanation is for a later time.) The point is that I was able to appreciate, in an almost mystical way, the vast array of experiences I enjoyed while still a very young man—culturally and artistically speaking. No, I did not globetrot to PARTAY and have unlimited sex, even in my sizzlin’ salad days.

(Yeah, okay, there were a few rendezvous and some vino, but that was relatively rare. I traveled to learn and to see and to study.)

If I do the Substack, it will be memoir-ish, with lots of photos of my adventures. I could write one hell of a memoir, without doubt, but I simply don’t think I want to make the effort. My autobiography is already laced amid the pages and paragraphs of my fantasy epics.

But riffing on photos via the Substacks just might be a way in which I can “park” a memoir and “fool myself” into believing I’m not really slogging through one … when, in fact, a memoir is taking shape.

Hmmmm.

There may be something to it. I shall cogitate. If I do it, the only thing I can guarantee is that it will be beautifully written and will probably entertain some people. That’s a promise.

Sans aucun doute.
