The rank and often willful stupidity that has infiltrated American culture—and the literary arm of that culture—has rarely been encapsulated as well as it is in this New York Times article. Whether one looks at a reviewer from the Washington Post extolling the book in question for its ability to “expand our empathy” [LEARN THE PROPER USE OF THE TERM “EMPATHY,” ILLITERATE LITERATI!] or the debacle of the book itself, the overall impression is one of a vast, and genuine, confederacy of dunces. I’d spend another hour despairing for our nitwitted species, but I have to go to the dentist.
