Bird Poop Can Only Hide a Goddess for So Long …
… until she finds a way out of the mess. Even if it takes centuries.
Archaeologists in Egypt are focused currently upon restoration work on the great temple of Khnum-Ra, Khnum, and Neith in the city of Esna. The temple is a late example of ancient Egyptian religious architecture, built in mostly traditional Egyptian style during the period of Roman imperial dominion. The mammoth, columned hypostyle hall/pronaos is all that remains of the temple but this structure alone has been a treasure trove of information about ancient Egyptian mythology and religious ritual practice from the time period.
New wonders are continually being revealed as researchers scrape away centuries of accumulated gunk to expose vivid colors, hieroglyphics, and reliefs. Among these uncovered astonishments are forty-six goddesses hitherto obscured by layers of bird poo. They are breathing the free air once more, thanks to Christian Leitz and his intrepid team.
It just goes to show: you can’t keep a good goddess down, bird turds be damned.
