Maybe Having BEEN a Child is Enough

There’s no question that Roald Dahl’s work possessed fairy tale qualities but he was said to be less than enamored with children. One has to admit that he loved to see youngsters embroiled in mischief and danger up to their eyeballs via literary device. Certainly there was a method to his fabulous madness, yet one has every right to wonder if he was writing from the monster’s point of view in his classics. Fun thought? Scary thought? Or was it perhaps a bit of both?

One response to “Maybe Having BEEN a Child is Enough”

  1. But isn’t this just what fairy tales are all about? There have always been monsters, or at least bad people or animals always luring children or young, innocent adults getting into bad and dangerous situations. But in the end good always perseviers and succeeds and the bad ones are getting what they deserve. After all that is what fairy tales are all about, right? Not pink unicorns dancing under rainbows, singing Hakuna Matata all day long.
