Not really. I’m simply bemused by the fact that “_____ BREAKS SILENCE!” has become such a ubiquitous journalistic buzz-phrase. It shows up in headlines like pustulant cold sores seen erupting on the lips of incautious … canoodlers. 🤭 It’s cheap and viral, especially given the fact that true journalism is doornail dead.
Speaking of cheap and viral, you know what’s cheap but not viral?
My upcoming novel release, THE WEDNESDAY BOX: A DARK FABLE, which is currently available for a $0.99 Kindle preorder HERE.
If I do say so myself, the story is heirloom quality. Yeah. A keepsake-level piece of work. A contemporary “dark fantasy” parable, if you will. Something a lot of people would enjoy reading, decide to keep in their personal libraries to read again, and pass onward to like-minded acquaintances, family members, and sundry.
It’s essentially about finding an impossibly “extra” amount of courage when courage is all you’ve ever known in the first place. And maybe four other potent themes.
I wrote this universal tale and I illustrated it (see above)—yes, I actually DRAW and paint and work with mixed media. Myself. Me. No ‘bots. I have been a professional illustrator for years. The first recognition I ever received for my art occurred when I was 15-years old, a high school junior. Grumpy and a bit mad at EARTH, like any respectable Junior, I entered a statewide contest in New York, through my high school, to design a logo for a fancy new business. I won. The $500 prize (quite a lot at the time) was secondary to the satisfaction of doing excellent work and getting a pinch of recognition.
That is the way I have always worked, when it comes to the creative arts: visual or literary or even musical. With original effort, ideas … and often accepting original challenges.
In addition to THE WEDNESDAY BOX, I have three additional “classic-level” works I intend to unleash upon the planet before Artificial Intelligence makes genuine TALENT an incidental thing, once and for … well, not for “all,” because history tells us that the human species is going to implode and suffer yet another (and perhaps permanent) Dark Age, reduced to rags and ruin.
I have to do my thing with integrity while I’m here. Period. If you’re an artist or creative in any significant way, you’ll understand my words.
So, yeah, I’m selling my intricate, soulful, seasoned new work for $0.99 while Kardashians still plague the earth and possess only enough talent to sign the checks paying for their latest ass-fat injections and skank apparel.
(I’m not envious—I’m disgusted. But I’m also not unrealistic: a lot of people enjoy the taste of degradation.)
Moreover, there’s good reason for selling my latest work for less-than-a-pittance: I haven’t released a book in over six years. Any somewhat broader audience that may have known about me has forgotten about me. I begin again from square one in the marketplace, but not without talent, honed craft, and experience, which is a sparkling advantage. The only one I have. Add to that a new, fantastic marketing dynamo (more about her later) and I can smile at the horizon.
Superb things are planned.
If you care about quality work that might endure, you will insult yourself and your dear mother’s soul if you don’t spend $0.99 on my new Kindle hope-to-be-classic.
While THE WEDNESDAY BOX is my first major release since my 2020 Kirkus-acclaimed novel, WISTWOOD, I have not spent the interim in idle pursuits. I have written and illustrated an additional novel and a tremendous collection of original fairy tales that will be a true heirloom edition, undeniable to any and all. (Pardon my boast, but no one else is tooting my horn, so the burden is mine.)
2020’s WISTWOOD earned a rave review from hallowed Kirkus Reviews and was selected for inclusion in their print magazine on the basis of that review—only 1% of reviewed books make it into their print mag. It was one of the most rewarding moments of my creative life because Kirkus is tough.
The novel was published in late April, 2020, mere days before the world went on lockdown due to COVID. Like the hopes and efforts of so many other individuals in all lines of work and life itself, my book was lost, utterly, in the panic. Understandably so. If I were a wicked person, I would have thrown a tantrum, I suppose, but I was frankly more worried about friends, loved ones, myself, and the species. Art and economy take back seats in such times.
But I’m back. If you’re reading this, it means that you’re back, too.
