Much Ado About Lots of Stuff

I’ve got SO MUCH NEWS coming out in the next month and a half that I am struggling to hold it all in because a great deal of that news must be kept secret. Have you ever felt like a teapot about to whistle or a volcano about to explode? Of course you haven’t. Nor have I. We can’t identify with volcanoes and teapots! (Well, to be fair, some of our friends on the earth do think that is possible and we’ll respect their wishes.) We can, however, analogize and imagine what those very disparate things “go through” as they let loose and make some noise.

Big. Fun. Revelations. Yes, there are going to be some coming! They are associated with the imminent release of my new novel THE WEDNESDAY BOX: A DARK FABLE … but not directly, if that makes any sense. I simply cannot say anymore lest I spoil the surprise. I am so excited that I want to shout about it and I am a fairly reserved fellow so make of that what you will.

Directly concerning THE WEDNESDAY BOX, I am happy to report that the release of the full book trailer is pending and I cannot wait to see it. (Yes, it’s still under wraps, even to me.) The insanely priced $0.99 Kindle Preorder is still going on for nine more days, which will be followed by a “book blitz.” I will be promoting work in clever ways for the next year and onward, kids. May the Light of Illuvatar surround me. 🙏🏻😄 Hey, don’t laugh. I shall be seeking the intercessory prayers of J.R.R. Tolkien, Rainer Maria Rilke, Florence King, Eleanor Hoffmann, and others on this journey. Energy, people! It’s all about energy.

For a bit of beguilement I have featured one of the forty-five original illustrations found in THE WEDNESDAY BOX above. It depicts a place … well, you’ll have to get the book and read it to find out. 😏

I have also been asked and tasked with producing more taglines and summations for the book. Writers know that one of the most difficult things about this kind of creative endeavor is telling readers (and others) WHAT ONE’S BOOK IS ABOUT in a quick, tidy, and efficient way. Our instincts are generally along the lines of: “The book explains itself in the aspect of its totality.” (At least, that’s my instinct.) But this will not do in a world where marketing is Supreme.

I have been encouraged to describe THE WEDNESDAY BOX as “The Ocean at the End of the Lane-meets-The Thief of Always” and a few other fables geared, in actuality, for adult readers. My book is definitely not for children, though its protagonist is a child at the mercy of very grown-up realities and forces—otherworldly and otherwise. It’s too scary for kids.

I prefer, however, to say that THE WEDNESDAY BOX is really a book about loneliness, the horrific ways that people fall through the cracks of an indifferent society, and the malevolent supernatural forces sometimes lurking in the shadows to catch them when they fall. It’s eerie, terrifyingly human, psychologically disturbing … and woven with a quicksilver thread of unstoppable hope.

Stay tuned for more news. And entertain yourself with a story that will stay with you long after the last page is read.
