When not writing, my enthusiasm for woodwork often collides with my interest in ancient mythology and results in a piece like this. I created and carved the stele shown here. It depicts the Egyptian goddess Nephthys-dark younger sister of Isis, mistress of the underworld, patroness of sorcery and beer-fueled festivity, doyenne of seduction, guardian of the decrees of Fate, and, above all, a deity of aggressive protection. She oversaw the wellbeing of all temples, royal estates, and tombs-in her names “strong of arm” and “she who breathes flame.” In other words… Nephthys was not to be messed with. When my writerly days are done, I’II probably sell these for fun. Everyone can use a mighty goddess around the house.
