Well, it’s still too hot in northern California to open my woodworking shop for the season, so back to the drawing table I went. This large piece (11” x 14” on Bristol) is intended to be a promo illustration for my new novel THE WEDNESDAY BOX. For this work, I decided upon a more abstract, almost brutalist ambience rather than the more eerie, “dark whimsical” illustrations I did for the book itself. Symbolism is the primary goal, here. Pen and ink, Arteeza pencils, Prismacolor pencils and pens, India Ink, and theatrical greasepaint touches will flesh this out. It’s not even 1/4 finished but I expect it will blaze when complete, especially for a work of significant size. Anyhow, I figured I’d give people a look at my “process” while it’s actually happening. Illustrating the “old-fashioned” way. Imagine that. Stay tuned for the eventual unveiling.
