I am one of those strange souls who was cursed (or blessed 🤔) from birth with an extreme case of pareidolia—a type of apophenia wherein the mind (and eye) sees coherent images in otherwise random, mundane, or even chaotic visual patterns. I suppose that is not a terribly surprising state of affairs for an illustrator of fantastical scenes, but I’ve lived with it all my days and I have come across a brand new example even as I … sit.
That pair of running sweatpants hanging on the hook looks like a murderous ghoul lying in wait to snatch a victim hapless enough to pass through the portal, though I was obviously able to elude its piercing talons.
Do you see what I see?
If not, I’ll prove it to you with an original illustration very soon. Stay tuned.
Magic comes in many forms, my friends, and inspiration is never far away.
