And, at long last, the final installment of my long-labored ShadowPyx Short Story Collection of tales (for this year, at least) has been released. DJINN and TONIC represents the fifth shorty born into the world this year—the last of these “little legends” written during the height of COVID between 2020 and 2023 to keep the imagination active. What a windfall of material; I did not expect to be so prolific in those strange days.
I was happy to see the opportunity to share these stories arrive sooner than I expected. (Seriously, I did not know when or if they would ever see the light of day.) All thanks to the Book Khaleesi management team for supporting and publishing these ethereal gems, as well as for coming up with lively marketing materials and banners. (The covers for the books are my original creations, thank you very much.) If you are one of those bewildered minds who cannot grasp that some authors truly can illustrate as well as they can write (sculpt, paint, woodwork, etc.), I have absolutely no use for you. Expand your sad horizons, grow some fucking perspective, or simply turn to dust, for all I care.
DJINN and TONIC has a personal meaning for me, in addition to being a fun story on its own: the tale in “homage” to writer Eleanor Hoffmann, whose beloved 1941 tale, Mischief in Fez, was one of the works that inspired my desire to both write and illustrate as a child.
Enjoy! I don’t know when or if I will publish supernatural fantasy or fiction work of any kind again. It’s been a fulfilling ride since 2000. ✨
