The year is winding down (and winding-UP in some corners of the doomed world) but I am just peachy in my quasi-monastic bubble amid the mountains in California. All fictional projects are FINISHED for the year, thank Zeus, and I am retreating further into the mystical solitude I desire for the remainder of my years upon this beleaguered ball of space-rock. Other than that, I’m in a delightful mood. 😁 Next year will bring the formation of academic monographs I have been planning and researching for over two decades. Materials are being dusted off and gathered. Future fantasy/fiction storytelling seems unlikely, at this point, but one never knows. These matters cannot be predicted. Meanwhile, I thought I’d share a few photos, here and there, taken during my extensive world travels. Above is a relief of the goddess Nephthys (one of my numerous celestial muses) from a column at the alluring temple of Kom Ombo in Upper Egypt. It was always an intriguing detective’s errand to hunt-down reliefs of the Dark Sister of Isis and Osiris and snap photos while haunting the wealth of tombs and temples open to the public (and a few that were not—baksheesh talks and camel dung walks, baby!). In this relief, Nephthys is designated as “the Great [One] in Per-Meru (the location of an important temple to Nephthys), the Great Sovereign of all the Gods.” She’s very pretty, ain’t she?
In other news, there are still a few days for Goodreads members in the USA to enter the giveaway lottery for my dark fantasy/eldritch horror novella, The Baphomet Glass. Over 2,000 have entered thus far but there’s still a chance to score one of 25 print copies on offer. Have a go by clicking HERE.
